Well, he had a good long run, and he seems to have been vigorous and intellectually active to the end. Perhaps now we will never know what he really thought about Bridges to the World.
Only second-hand at best now (I've heard through one mutual friend that he did appreciate receiving a copy. Now, whether he opened it or used it for kindling -- that's another story).
I suppose that's an end of an era -- although perhaps vG's zeal for critiquing the real will live on through one or more of his protégés. I wonder how they will react to the news of his passing.
Just learned yesterday that Ernst's final commentary focuses on Bridges. He clearly appreciated our depiction of an RCist in the character of Hans.
